NEPAL IS PRESENTLY EXPERIENCING ITS GREATEST EMERGENCY IN HISTORY, ACCORDING TO PASTOR RABINDRA DAS! PLEASE THINK ABOUT THIS. THIS IS ON THE BACKGROUND OF NEPAL ALREADY BEING ONE OF THE 10 POOREST COUNTRIES IN THE WORLD EVEN BEFORE COVID-19. THIS COUNTRY HAD ALSO BEEN DEVASTATED AS A RESULT OF THE 2016 EARTHQUAKE THAT BROUGHT AFA INTO THIS COUNTRY. POVERTY HAD BEEN EVEN WORSE SINCE THEN.

In April/May 2020 AFA has invested $60,000 in Nepal alone to save lives from hunger, malnutrition and death. We cannot do any more. Here are some pictures and updates:

Distribution centres were in various districts of Nepal. Here we are in the Sarlahi District near the Indian border. In the background the church that served as such a centre. The food in those green bags was provided by the LMN (Lutheran Mission Nepal)/AFA ministry in association with Pastor Rabindra’s church.

They always coordinated with the local government whose representatives had to be involved. The church here is located in a poor community where most of the people are from Dalit and Janjati (tribal) background. The church is serving a community called Shiswa. It is a growing small church with mostly poor members. Nearly all have lost their livelihood. The green sacks you see contain 30kg of rice. Assistance has gone to church members and equally other members of the community.

This family has no food at home. They had corn as main crop which was damaged by a hailstone. There was a 2-months long lockdown. They could not go out to work so that they could eat. They do not have food at home. In order to meet their food needs (hunger), they went to a nearby forest and collected soft roots of trees which they are eating. In the picture you see the lady taking out the bark (hard part of the root) with a knife.
