Sabah and Sarawak on Borneo Island constitute East Malaysia. Sabah has nearly 4 million people, more than half of them tribal, the others Malay, Chinese, 25% foreign workers.
Islam is the official religion of Malaysia but Christian non-ethnic Malaysians (Chinese, tribal) can worship freely. Christianity is strong, not far off 2 million in reality. A dark shadow: the intense conversion pressure on Christians!
AFA Action at this point is limited to sponsoring 1.5 theological students at SABAH THEOLOGICAL SEMINARY (STS) requiring $7,000 p/a. [Explanation: Noosa Church adds another 0.5 in joint sponsorship to make it two students]. STS is the most amazing seminary in Asia. It started with nothing 25 years ago and now has 250 students trained for service in Sabah and much of Asia. There is vigour and enthusiasm – but also much pain because of relentless pressure from Islam. The LCA is involved with STS also.
